Another EBS eclosed from last season!

Welcome to the outside world buddy! A LOT has changed since you were here last...

A butterfly release is always exciting!

This handsome Eastern Black Swallowtail (EBS) butterfly was waiting for me when I went to check in the greenhouse this morning. This particular butterfly went into chrysalis late summer of 2019. Nature is AMAZING! Here in the midwest we have many butterflies that 'overwinter'. The EBS is one of them. They enter into 'Diapause' an insects version of "hibernation". We took some time to admired him and capture some photos, then released him.

In March 2017, with populations plummeting 90 percent in the past 25 years, the Rusty Patched bumble bee (B. affinis) became the first bumble bee ever added to the U.S. Endangered Species List.
